Me Time – Learn to Scrapbook

It’s a crazy world out there, and many of us will be enduring the next few weeks (or months) from the comfort of our own homes. While this may be alarming for many, solitude can be a good thing. Solitude helps us learn more about ourselves, and enhances our creativity. Instead of dwelling on being trapped at home, try to be a little positive and make the most of it. If scrapbooking is a hobby you’ve never tried, it could be a fun activity to pass the time and reflect on happier memories. Whether if it’s a hobby of yours, or something you’ve never tried, use the extra time at home to let out some of your creativity and create a unique scrapbook. One day, when you’re able to go outdoors again, you’ll look back on your beautiful scrapbook with fondness.

If you’ve never made a scrapbook before, all it takes is a book, some pages, fun crafting supplies, happy photos, and a bit of creativity! Here are some steps to get you started:

Step 1: Think of a Theme

Before you do anything, think about what you want this scrapbook to represent. Maybe it’s a specific event in your life, such as a prom or a wedding. Maybe the theme is “friendship” and you want to include all photos of your friends. You could even use a “positivity” theme and make a scrapbook of all your favorite quotes and inspiration. The possibilities are endless.

Step 2: Gather the Supplies

Of course to scrapbook, you’ll need a pretty, large book to store all your memories. Find a pretty book, preferably one that fits your theme, and then gather your design materials. You’ll want to buy fun scrapbook pages, stencils, ribbon, etc. Get creative. The most important supplies you’ll need are your mementos. Gather your photos, cards, concert tickets, and whatever else you might want to include

Step 3: Play Around with Organization

Begin to play around with how you’d like your mementos to be organized in your book. Maybe it’s in chronological order, or maybe it’s organized in a way that tells a story. Decide how you want it to appear before you glue anything down.

Step 4: Glue It All Down

Page by page, lay down your selection of photos, maybe adding in other objects if you’d like. Before you glue anything down, make sure you’re happy with the background paper and the layout of the page, and consider journaling some notes about each photo for memories sake.

Step 5: Decorate and Add to Book!

Decorate! Get creative with each page. Add stickers, stencil some pictures, and add anything you’d like to make the page complete. Once everything is finished and dry, place each page into a sheet protector and add to your scrapbook.

Have fun with it, and if it’s your first scrapbook, don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Scrapbooking can be challenging, but it’s all about being creative, admiring old memories, and having a good time!
