Yoga is a great way to start your morning when you’re feeling tired and dreading the day ahead. A quick 5-10 minute flow can stretch out your body and give you a boost of energy to start your day. Yoga is the perfect way to get your blood flowing without enduring an intense and timely morning workout. If you’re looking for a quick and easy yoga flow to bring some light into your morning and to energize your body, look no further. Roll out your yoga mat or get comfy on your carpet and try out this morning yoga flow that will make kissing your comfy bed goodbye a little bit easier!
Begin in Child’s pose. Keep your knees wide and rest your forehead on your mat. Stretch your arms out in front of your head, and take 2-3 deep breaths.
Move into Table Top position. Make sure your wrists are below your shoulders and your knees are below your hips. Take a few rounds of Cat Cow by inhaling and lowering your belly and lifting your head to the sky. Then exhale and lift up your ribcage and move your head in to look at your navel. This is a great pose to open up your spine and to even out your breath.
Come back to Table Top and then stretch your right leg out and bring it forward towards your nose. Repeat this onto your left leg to stretch out both legs.
Next, push up into Downward Facing Dog. Keep your hips high and rest your gaze to between your toes. Knees can be bent if you’d like, or you can peddle out the feet. Keep your fingers wide to prevent any wrist pain. Hold this for 2-3 breaths
Step forward and lift for a flat back before folding forward. Bend your knees if you feel any tension in your lower back or hamstrings. It’s the morning so it’s totally normal to be a little bit tighter than usual.
Stand up straight and sweep your arms overhead and hold your right wrist with your left hand. We are now going to stretch out even more by stretching to the left. Then switch hands and stretch over to the right. Take another Forward Fold, lift half way, then fold once more and push back into Downward Facing Dog.
Move your feet out and lower your hips into a squat. Put your hands into prayer position and lift your chest. Allow your elbows to press against your knees.
Finally, take a seated position and cross your legs. Feel free to take a few extra breaths if you need them. If not, hopefully you are feeling loose and energized for the start of your day!
If you want a little bit more of a practice, or are unsure about how to do any of these poses, there are millions of videos on YouTube to teach you. Yoga doesn’t have to be an hour long exercise at an expensive studio. Just a simple 10 minute flow at the start of your day can have a huge impact. I hope you found this flow energizing and a good start to your morning! Do you have any yoga positions that are vital to your flow? I’d love to hear about them!
